Architecture is considered one of the male-
dominated fields which has comparably
minimal female participation over the years.
The narrative has changed in recent times as
today's women keep thriving in such fields. A
typical example of such inspiring stories is that
of the award-winning Olajumoke Adenowo.
The smart Nigerian builder has made good
progress in the field, rounding up an impressive
CV for herself over the years. Credible reports
from local news outlets credit Adenowo with
world class projects such as the Nigerian Stock
Exchange edifice, the Heritage Bank
Headquarters, Ekiti State Liaison Office located
in Lagos among many others.
Responding to questions on how she got the
inspiration to venture into this field, the builder
mentioned that, a visit to Paris was the main
trigger. She indicated that, the nature of
structures she saw motivated her to replicate
the same and more in Africa.
She commenced her profession from Femi
Majekodunmi Associates architectural firm and
quickly developed through the ranks into the big
woman she is today. "I was always ready. I
would be at the office at 11 pm on Sunday when
other girls are dancing or something" she said.
"I think my boss saw my passion and he gave
me a chance. If we had more mentors like that
in Africa, I believe the younger generation would
blossom faster" Adenowo added. She gained
the independence to build her Own company at
the age of 25 and developed it into the world
class company as it is known today.
Her performance over the years has earned her
recognition from credible award schemes such
as the International Alliance for Women World
of Difference 100 Award, the Rare Gems Award,
the New African Business Woman of the Year
