Nigerian Artist, John Amanam is the first African to produce hyper-realistic prostheses for black people.

Nigerian Artist, John Amanam is the first African to produce hyper-realistic prostheses for black people.

He is the CEO of Immortal Cosmetic Art.

The word, "PROSTHESIS" refers to an artificial body part, such as a limb, a heart, or a breast implant. The plural form is "PROSTHESES."

Artificial limbs, or prostheses, are used to replace a missing body part which may have been lost due to trauma, disease or congenital defect. The type of prosthesis a person can use is dependent on the individual, including the cause of amputation or limb loss, and the location of the missing extremity.

Living with amputations is challenging. It’s hard enough to need to re-learn locomotion and other natural habits. Amputees also struggle with acceptance and inclusion in society. Prostheses tackle both problems, making them one of the most potent coping systems for amputees today.

Here is why Amanam's invention is highly significant, not just for Nigerians and Africans, but for the entire black race all over the world.

The World Health Organization estimates 30 million people in emerging economies live with amputated limbs, and only five per cent of them have access to prosthetics. 

But even worse, dark skin tones are largely ignored in global production. White people are often the focus of the prosthesis market. Consequently, Africans have been using prosthetics that do not match their skin colour. 

It's for the above reasons that I have chosen to celebrate the heroics of this great Ibibio Son and Nigerian who said the only Course he wanted to study in the University was FINE ARTS and SCULPTURE and nothing else.

His parents and grandparents were also Fine artists. He recognized his talents quite early in life and today he is being celebrated all over Africa and the entire world for his trailblazing achievements.

He has suddenly become more famous than many of his contemporaries who studied the socalled Professional Courses like Medicine and Surgery, Law, Engineering and Pharmacy, and thus put a lie to claims that if one didn't study those courses, one wouldn't easily excel in life.
