The residence where Nelson Mandela lived from 1946 to 1962 is now the Nelson Mandela National Museum.
It is frequently referred to as Mandela House and is located on Vilakazi Street in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa. It is located at 8115, which is close to Tutu House, the residence of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, and is on the corner of Vilakazi and Ngakane street.
Mandela donated the home to the Soweto Heritage Trust, which he had founded, on September 1st, 1997. Now a museum, the house.

Tourists ranked Soweto as the 16th most popular destination in South Africa in 1999. Part of this is due to Mandela House's opening in December 1997.
