Ethiopia.
Ethiopia, formerly known as Abyssinia, is believed to be one of the oldest countries, dating back to 400 BC. dates back to Ethiopia is a Christian country that considers itself an isolated branch of Orthodoxy. On the one hand, this forces Europeans not to treat Ethiopia as they treat other African countries.
Ethiopia was invaded by Italy in 1895 to colonize it. However, Italy was shamefully defeated thanks to the rapidly expanding Ethiopian Empire. With this, Italy recognized Ethiopia as a liberal country.
Despite all this, Italy never seemed to give up on Ethiopia. In 1936 the then-ruling Italian dictator Benito Mussolini invaded Ethiopia and this time won against the Ethiopian troops. However, his reign lasted only five years, as Ethiopia was returned to Emperor Haile Selassie in 1941.
Liberia.
The interesting thing about Liberia is that it has been designated by the United States as the home for freed slaves. You would think it had been colonized, and they were right. But at least it wasn't colonized by Europeans.
Liberia was actually founded as a republic long before the arrival of Europeans. Note that the rest of Africa is not united, or rather organized in a way that can fight collectively. Therefore, the Europeans took advantage of this disagreement and signed treaties which then stimulated colonization.
